Do I need SQL and Exchange Agent?
Hi,
I'm planning a backup solution for a small environment running on vSphere 5. We are planning on using Backup Exec 2012 along with the VMWare agent.
Some of the VMs will have SQL Server Express and one VM will have Exchange.
Our backup requirement is really for DR purposes so we will only ever need to restore a whole VM, no real requirement to perform any granular restores.
My question is whether I need to use the SQL and Exchange agents in order to get a consistent backup data set. Or does the fact that the VMWare agent integrates with VSS give me the consistency that I need. I appreciate that without the application agents I will not be able to restore individual databases or mailboxes etc, but I don't have a requirement to do so.
Thanks!

Considering your requirement which mainly (or only) relates to a DR scenario, you don't need Exchange or SQL licenses..
anyways, VMWare license is sufficient!

As granular restore is not the requirement , You dont really need SQL and exchange agent. Having VMware agent would be adequate.

Do I need SQL and Exchange Agent?
No.. Not required as your requirement is not to restore Granular data.
