Do I need to update Client if I already updated Manager (*.jdb) ?
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 9 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
I'm managing a closed network with servers and clients running EndPoint Protection.
I already downloaded vd2ee231.jdb from http://www.symantec.com/business/security_response..., and updated my "Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager installations on Windows platforms (32-bit)".
Do I also need to use 20091117-049-v5i32.exe to update "Symantec Endpoint Protection Client installations on Windows platforms (32-bit)" ? If yes, why? If no, could you tell me if vd2ee231.jdb had already been distributed to the clients and updated them automatically?

if the clients are managed
if the clients are managed one, based on heartbeat the client will communicate with SEPm and get the updates. Ofcourse the managed client should have the LU policy mentioning that the client should be updated from SEPM.
Check the report, logs to see if the clients are updated.
Cheers!
Pete

The file *. JDB can be used
The file *. JDB can be used to update the virus definitions for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager. Once the SEPM gets updated it updates all managed clients that are commuincating to SEPM
So you don't need to download the 20091117-049-v5i32.exe to update "Symantec Endpoint Protection Client installations on Windows platforms (32-bit)

I agree with shp..all the managed clients will get the updates...
If you update SEPM with jdb
If you update SEPM with jdb file, the clients will get update from the server
For that in liveupdate policy you have to specify clients has to get update from SEPM
Remember jbd file will update only AV/AS .It will not update PTP or NTP...

32bit vs. 64bit SEPM updates.
I guess I have a similar question, but with reference to 32bit vs 64bit clients attached to SEPM.
If my SEPM server is 32bit, and I'm using a 32bit JDB to update SEPM, will my 64bit clients get definition updates?
I too am using an SEPM infrastructure on a closed network.
You have to download both
You have to download both 32Bit and 64 Bit JDB file for SEPM.
