Apart from the software update used when you updated from 7.6 to 7.7, the SBG 7.7 in my opinion the SBG should really use less bandwidth than 7.6. The difference between the two versions being how the SBG checks to see if an IP address making a connection is on any of Symantec's Global Reputation lists.
Previous to 7.7 the SBG used to download the Zombie, Suspect Sammers and Safe Senders lists about once an hour from Symantec. In 7.7 these lists are no longer downloaded but the SBG does realtime DNS lookups on connecting IP's to see if they are on Symantec's lists. Although you will see more DNS queries happening to Symantec's servers, in my opinion this should still lead to less bandwidth being used in the long run.
