...the Private Insight Server option introduced in SEP12.1RU3?

There's no mention of it in the SEP12.1RU3 Release Notes, but it's clearly visible under our Site Properties.

The only article I've found on it is below:
    http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO84720

    Any additional information is appreciated.

    Thanks all!

Seems to be for closed networks...I'd probably put in a call to get what you need.

Yeah, I've already reached out to our technical Symantec contact.  Just wondering if anyone else had any info on it

Didn't even know it existed, not that I'll be using it. Post back if you get any good info...

I do find it odd that this wasn't mentioned in the Release Notes.

The only reason I found it was because I went rummaging for changes to the console after upgrading a SEPM (so that we can better advise our customers of what to expect).

Definitely the first time I've seen a new feature go unmentioned.

    Hello,

Symantec Insight for Private Clouds appliance

Symantec Insight for Private Clouds Endpoint Edition is typically installed in networks without Internet connectivity. The private server stores a copy of Symantec Insight's reputation database in your private cloud. Symantec Endpoint Protection reputation queries are HTTP or HTTPS requests to the private server rather than to Symantec's Insight server.

The private server downloads the Symantec Insight data over an encrypted, secure connection. You can manually update the Insight data or use third-party tools to check for updates and download the data automatically. Your update method depends on your network and the type of server on which you run Symantec Insight for Private Clouds.

When you use a private Insight server, Symantec does not receive any queries or submissions for file reputation.

I recommend contacting your Sales representative.  Symantec Insight for Private Clouds (SIPC) is a virtual appliance that can be used for SEP 12.1 RU3 and above's Insight/Reputation-related lookups on dark networks (no Internet connectivity).  A rough analogy is that SIPC is like a "LiveUpdate Administartor 2.x server for Reputation" (creates an in-house mirror of what is on the Internet servers).

There are substantial system requirments for this virual appliance and SIPC is an optional add-on which must be purchased.  It's best suited for very large high-security networks (tens of thousands of endpoints with no Intenet access) in my understanding.  Sales should have more info for you, if this sounds like something that would be of interest.

    Hope this helps!
