Does Backup Exec need WINS to browse for the agent in the network?

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Is this still the case?  If not, from what version, it's changed?

Well, I shoud have explaned the back ground why this question came up...  Our company is wanting to get rid of WINS servers.  Before doing so, we need to find out which products are still relying on NetBIOS for their functionarities.  Then the company can decide what to do.  Backup Exec came up as one of those products.  In our environment, we still have mixtures of12.5, 2010 and 2012.  I wasn't sure if we get rid of WINS, all of our Backup Exec will function fine or do we need to upgrade 2012 (if 2012 can do away with WINS).

Whist we still use netbios names for some things, I don't have a WINS server in my test network and haven't had for some time. DNS is heavily used for name resolution so resolving both hostname/netbios name and FQDN should work correctly over DNS.

Also Agents now publish themselves to the media server so port 6101 (listening on media server) needs to be accesible by the remote agents as a target port,

EDIT: I am not sure what version we may have changed the WINS requirement against, however suspect the change happened so long ago that the last version of BE to require WINS is no longer officially supported.
