Does a Full Scan scan Redirected Folders?

Product: Endpoint Protection 11
Release: 11.0.5002.333

Does anyone know if a SEP Full Scan will also scan redirected network folders (such as Documents, Desktop and Favorites)? If it does, how can these redirected folders be excluded from the Full Scan?

We are using W2k3 R2 AD Domain DFS and Group Policy for folder redirection of Documents, Desktop and Favorites under XP, Vista, W7 as follows:
\\domain.local\users\%username%\Desktop
\\domain.local\users\%username%\Documents
\\domain.local\users\%username%\Favorites

There is a similar article here (http://service1.symantec.com/support/ent-security....) describing the full scan behaviour of mapped drives but it doesn't mention the behaviour of UNC connections i.e. Folder Redirection.

Thanks for any help?
Paul

I don't believe it does. We

I don't believe it does. We run scans every week and none of it seems to happen over the users' home drives.

My guess is that it would be treated in the same fashion as a web favorite or .lnk file - it won't run off to the destination to check it, just the 'shortcut' itself.

Thanks for the information

Thanks for the information guys.

We do have the Network Scan option disabled in the AV policy, so our SEP shouldn't be scanning our (Network) redirected folders described above.

Cheers,
Paul.

If anyone from Symantec is

If anyone from Symantec is reading this, would it be possible to publish a similar KB document to Document ID: 2009092213060248, as linked in my original question above?

Thanks in advance.
Paul.

A very quick way to test this

A very quick way to test this it to drop the eicar test virus files into the folders and then change settings around in the SEP policy and see what happens.
