This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi

Just wondering if the snapshot utility that comes with GSS 2.51 still works under Windows 7 x64, as I have to make some snapshots for some software that I have to deploy asap.

Depends on what you want to capture

There are only one or two snapshot tools around that are capable of true 64 bit capture. However, if you just want to capture 32 bit applications on a 64 bit platform, then the snapshot utility should be OK.

Note that in order to capture changes to either the 64 bit areas of the registry, or the 64 bit areas of the filesystem, any snapshot tool has to be written as a true 64 bit application.

Thanks again Edt, basically

Thanks again Edt, basically 99% of the apps being deployed are still 32 bit Windows 64 bit, so I think Ghost AutoInstall should be ok. The only reason I asked is because when I tried to install it (ghost autoinstall) on a clean windows 7 x64 bit, it gave me a compatibility warning.

You should turn off UAC when

You should turn off UAC when using the snapshot tool, as having it on makes Windows 7 users run with restricted rights, and will prevent the snapshot tool from getting full access to the file system and registry.

Ideally, taking snapshots on an XP platform tends to give more reliable results even if the ultimate installation is destined for a Win 7 machine, as XP does not present so many security issues to the snapshot process.  Since Win 7 can run XP as a virtual environment, you may want to consider that path as well for your snapshot requirements.

So your saying if the

So your saying if the snapshot is destined for a Windows 7 box I should do the snap on an xp box and then test the snap on a windows 7 box?

What is Symantec's solution for AI on Windows 7 64bit

Can I get an official answer of being able to snapshot/capture a Windows 7 64bit Application?

If GSS 2.5.1 AI can not capture/snapshot a Windows 7 64bit application, will it in the future?

Does Symantec have an alternative solution? Will there be?

Is there a migration path to an alternative Symantec product than can?

Private messages welcome!

Thanks
