  • 1.  Does not detect even when scan runs in safe mode???

    Posted Mar 19, 2008 11:04 AM
I have been working with SEP 11.x and I must say I am a bit disapointed with the performance. Since I have installed it I am unable to access task-manager and must important it does not detect files that I am finding on my own. I have noticed adware.180search has been picked up by SEP but it failed to quarantine the program after which I have noticed multiple unfamiliar folders in the root and %windows% folder as well Zango being one of them. I thought that you should also know that this is not a complaint this is for your information thread. I understand that perhap Symantec is still working on the new ver. 11.X I am searching and keeping a sharp for files that do not seem like they belong and once found I do a look-up in Symantec site and take appropriate action. Just one question shouldn't the program pick up on the folders anyway I mean I see them just by searching visually. I wonder if this is just some of the clean up that is needed after cleaning up of the Adware.180Search trojan. Reply is greatly appreciated and Thank you for your time and efforts.

    Hi,

after applied the obvious Sujay's suggestion, if you have some suspicious files not detected or not well managed by SEP, you should call the Technical Support, explain what happened, submit the suspicious file to the Security Response and wait for a perfected definition set based on your samples.

    Regards,

    Hi Giuseppe.Axia
why symantec fails somany times to detect a new virus. what are the sources from where you get new virus and create their defination..Are you allways relying on the customer to get the new threat.

Yes, we mainly rely on our customers to get the new threats... for a simple reasons... this is already  a very big occupation.

Well, I haven't seen the latest misleading applications go through our network at the moment. But I'm guessing that if this would ever happen today, it would likely be that a user clicked on the install/download/run option after numerous popups saying that he or she should do so. This I think would then escalate the read/write rights of the file to that of the user or even a local admin or system account and be able to install itself, uninstall or disable the competition and wreak havok to your system.
