  • 1.  Does SEP11 Unmanaged Have a Scan Engine

    Posted Jul 19, 2013 08:10 AM

    Hello

    I have SEP11 Unmanaged stand-alone Windows 7 desktop.  I use the updates from http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=savce

The definitions update ok, someone asked when there is not a Scan Engine with this?  I thought Scan Engines came from Server installations that push updates to clients.

Checking some of the other forums, I see a Scan Engine option

    http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=cs

But does the unmanaged SEP11 have a scan engine that needs updating?

    Thank you

No. These are two completely different products. You don't need to worry about scan engine. Scan engine is used in scanning NAS.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in Symantec community.

With every product release there might be an update in backend engines.

Screenshot is attached to the reference.

If you are talking about scan engine softwrae then it's a completely different software designed for storage devices.

In SEP11 scan engines doen't need any regular updates. Only virus definitions we have to update. It used this virus defintions update as a database for detecting virus/ malacious softwares. If you are encounting some probles with the current scan engine, you can go for new version of SEP. It will have new version of scan engines.

    Hello,

Since you are running SEP 11.x, check this article:

How to check the version of AV engine and Eraser engine from the client computer

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH95856

When you check other forums, you see a Scan Engine option -

    http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=cs

which is for a different Symantec Product - "Symantec Scan Engine 5.2"
