Does Symantec Power Eraser v1.0.4040 work in Safe Mode?

When I try to run Power Eraser in Safe Mode with "Add bootlog rootkit analysis (requires reboot)", the system reboots back to normal mode and Power Eraser never runs.

If I press F8 while rebooting, I am able to select Save Mode BUT, Power Eraser doesn't run automatically. Instead I have to launch Symantec Power Eraser manually, then I get the same prompt, giving me the option to "Add bootlog rootkit analysis (requires reboot)"

Please help.

By the way, I'm running Power Eraser in normal mode with the bootlog rootkit analysis option and when the computer re-booted to normal mode, it resumed running (rather than having to manually start Power Eraser)

It will but you need to make sure you have a network connection otherwise it will not work. Having a network connection is the key.

You need to go in msconfig and check the option for /safeboot

I logged in as Administrator, went to MSCONFIG, checked Safeboot, checked Networking and keep getting an error that I am not allowed to do this, try logging in as Administrator.

When I restart the machine, it restarts in safe mode. However, I still have the same issue of Power Eraser not running automatically after I automatically rebooted.

It certainly could be a bug. I have not tested very often but will when I get back in the office.

You may want to consider opening a case with support.

I will be able to test it on Monday only :( But I will let you know.

Does one need to run this tool in SafeMode for it to work effectively?

I have not needed to, and it's cleaned out files for me just fine.  I disable system restore, run the tool, reboot as it tells me to.  Thats it.  Not that I'm doing it right or wrong, just curious...

The new System Tool 20011 FakeAV shuts down legit programs after it executes. I could get nothing to work other than Process Explorer. Of course I was able to kill the malicious processes. I thought this was weird since the malware went thru all that trouble to kill applications but it lets Proc Explorer run....

But when Power Eraser was run while 2011 was running, it basically just sat there churning but never actually did anything...Finally I got an error, rebooted, and 2011 was still there.

I opened a ticket and the tech is researching it. Please let me know your feedback as well.
