Does upgrade to management console still need to have database stopped first?

Created: 23 Jul 2014 | 6 comments

Hi.

This is an upgrade from 12.1.3  (12.1.3001.156) to 12.1.4 Mp1a.

Does one still need to stop the database manager before running the upgrade on the console or does the install routine now take care of all that?

Thanks.

Thanks James.

I reviewed that doc and it is the SEP manager service that must be stopped. I was thinking there was something.... Why can't the Symantec engineers just do that on the upgrades?  :-(

Stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service
Before you upgrade, you must manually stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service on every management server in your site. After you upgrade, the service is started automatically.
WARNING: You must stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service before you upgrade, or you will corrupt your existing installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager

Why can't the Symantec engineers just do that on the upgrades?

May be some installation corrupt you existing SEPM manager.

You need to stop the DB when you have replication in place, otherwise not needed.

As a safe practice I have seen almost all the clients stopping the db before upgrade though its not needed.

You only need to stop the SEPM service before doing an upgrade.

Hi,

Does one still need to stop the database manager before running the upgrade on the console or does the install routine now take care of all that?

--> Only need to stop Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) service. No need to stop Symantec Embedded database service.

Before you upgrade, you must manually stop the Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager service on every management server in your site. After you upgrade, the service is started automatically.
