Does upgrading to Backup Exec 2012 reduce the backup size?

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi There,

I'm currently using backup exec 2010, and the 2TB disk is going to be full in a month.

I'm just wondering if anyone know that Backup Exec 2012 will reduce the backup size? either by compressing or de-duplicate the data.

Thanks

No. Upgrading would not reduce the size of your backup.  Compression and dedup is already available in BE 2010. BTW, the dedup option needs to be purchased, whereas compression is built into BE.

The dedup ratio depends on your data.  Ask your reseller to run the BE Deduplication Assessment Tool for you.  This will tell you how much benefit you get from dedup.

Note that to use dedup, BE needs to be loaded on a 64-bit OS.
