Can Altiris be used to check server availability? For instance a simple ping or SNMP check if the server is still available? We are looking to replace Orion for network monitoring.

Yes, Altiris can monitor servers. Both from a network point of view or a agent running on the server.

Both v6 and v7 of Monitor
are pretty powerful, but I've found v7 easier to use, and with the recent contest for montior pack creation, lots of 'extras' readily available.

I am playing with it in 7
I am playing with it in 7 with the agentless monitor. Works great!
However, need to figure out how to do it in 6. Any tips?
