Drive pool? Or is this possible???
Updated: 25 May 2010 | 4 comments
Is it possible to have backups span more than 1 tape in the same autoloader? We have a HP Ultrium3 autoloader with 8 tapes. I would like to find out if its possible to span data across 2 tapes if the 1st one fills up.
If it IS possible, where can I find instructions on how to do this?
Thanks,
Steve

This should happen auto-magically, if you point your jobs to the library/loader as a whole (assuing of course that you have more than one scratch/overwriteable tape moounted.
If you point your jobs to a partition, then the partition must consist of two or more slots

Well here is the way we currently have the backup setup.......
I would like to take tape 3, for example, and have tape 3 & 4 be used for 1 particular backup job.......

To do this, you would need to create a two slot partition, then point the Backup Job to the partition rather than the library/loader as a whole. See the Admin Guide or http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/262055.htm

In case, you want to go for partitioning, see the Partitions demo (free) under Advanced Device and Media Management on the BETC website: http://techcenter.symantec.com/ecampus/enterprise
