Hi all,

Right now I am facing very serious problem when trying to remote Windows 7 computers. Do all of you know if there is any SP5 out to fix this issue? Or the fact is that we have to upgrade to CMS 7.1 ? Seems we waste so much time to do useless thing to try fix the issue by ourselves. Thanks.

Sam

More info.

Hi Sam,

The forums might be of some help if you post any information that you can about your problem (for example any error messages, the steps you are following to reproduce the problem, etc.).  I can tell you that Remote Control works as of 6.9SP3 on Windows 7.  SP5 is available now, although, I can't speak to whether or not it fixes any issues with the Remote Control function.

Please follow the steps below

Please follow the steps below and check whether it works.

1. Connect Win7 client to DS .

2. After successfull connection with server ,check entry of client in Computer  pane under all computers.

3. Right click on client entry ->change agent settings->production agent.

4. Production agent settings window will open .

5. Select access tab and make sure that checkbox for 'allow this computer to be remote controlled' is checked.

6. press ok

7. Waits until the  clients connect back to server.

8. Again right click on client entry ->Remote control-> DS remote control.

9. Now you will be able to controlled the client remotely.

AClient vs. DAgent

One other comment, make sure you are using DAgent and not AClient in the Windows 7 environment.

We have the same issues with

We have the same issues with SP4. Cannot remote desktop to Win 7 64 bit machines. Going to have to call and open a case with Altiris.

Change video output to 4bit

Change video output to 4bit colors and it work fine.

View->color depth-> 4bit

This will fix "white screen" issue when trying to open remote connection.

UseRCDrivers ?

We had this with the AClient as well and solved it by changing the below setting in the INP file.

Original:

UseRCDrivers=Yes

Changed:

UseRCDrivers=No

We got the issue resolved.

We got the issue resolved. But it's a odd one since we have SP4 in our test environment and SP2 in our production.

To enable DS remote for Windows 7->

1. RDP to the DS server - All Programs -> Altiris -> Deployment Solution -> Configuration

Options-> Transport ->

Uncheck: Allow Encrypted Sessions

You will need to restart the DS Services.

2. On the server, Open C:\DSsetup

Run axinstall.exe

Goto Component Install.

Install Additional Deployment Console.

On a remote computer (Enter the computer name in the box)

3. Configure your ODBC settings on this machine the Console is installed on. And you should be able to DE Remote to a machine that has someone logged in to it.

You may need to Enable log on the server and client once to make this work.

Enable log:

RDP to the DS server - All Programs -> Altiris -> Deployment Solution -> Configuration

Options-> Debug ->

Check Log Agent Communication with Engine.

Goto the Console and right the client - Change Agent Settings -> Production Agent - Log File

Check all Boxes.

So the down side is if we use the SP4 console, we cant  DS remote to our production machines. But SP4 console seems to work with Win7 Clients fine.

Let me know if this works for you.
