  • 1.  DS 7.1 P2V - Is it possible?

    Posted Jan 24, 2012 03:40 AM

Hello. When I was on a symantec instructor lead course, the teacher said that the product can do P2V, a similar functionality that is possible with VMWare.

I have had a browse on the web and not found much evidance to support this.

Does anyone know how to do this, or has anyone done it before?

    Thanks.

Make sure you've got all the Virtual Drivers in DeployAnywhere and deploy the image to your Virtual computer.

Not positive, are you sure he wasn't indicating that DS can create a ghost image, and VMWare Converter can take that ghost image and convert it natively?  This would probably function better than trying to do a P2V convert while the machine is running (I've found that fails more often than not).

It's usually a capture/restore when they say this, capture a physical image and deploy to a blank virtual machine.  There's no capture to .vmdk option or anything like that.

P2V is visa versa supported for imaging in DS (Deploy Anywhere should be used). Where Ghost (.gho) or Rdeploy (.img) images created from physical hardware; can be deployed to VMware guest Image and visa versa (But no support of VM image file type conversion to Ghost/Rdeploy as Mike mentioned)

    Thanks.
