DS 7.5 and NBS - does the Deployment Agent need to be able to reach the NS?

I've just been delving into 7.5 Deployment Solution. My setup is as follows:

    • 7.5 NS running on VLAN 1
    • 7.5 Package/Task/NBS with two NICs, one NIC is on VLAN 1 and communicates with NS, second NIC is on VLAN 2.
      • VLAN 2 has no method of routing back to VLAN 1. It is a dedicated VLAN for imaging.
    • A desktop on VLAN2 that I am attempting to image utilizing PXE boot.

I have NBS/DHCP/DNS etc. all functioning fine, the desktop can boot off of the NBS server with no issues, loads up WinPE, and the NIC is functioning and able to ping the NBS.

However, I see in the agent logs on the desktop (in WinPE) that the agent is attempting to communicate back to the Notification Server, and obviously failing given my setup. I'm currently having an issue where the desktop is not picking up the jobs list that I told NBS to give unmanaged computers, which is why I began looking into this. I'm told this may be an issue with being on 7.5 SP1 non HF5, and I'm fine doing that upgrade to see if that resolves the issue.

But,  I am looking for confirmation that an unmanaged computer PXE booting does NOT require a connection back to the Notification Server and that the NBS/Site server will handle all communication during the imaging process. I opened a case with support, and they told me to install HF5, but never really answered this question.

    Any insight appreciated.

I think the client has to be able to communicate with the NS:

    - Getting it's GUID

    - Getting redirected to it's site servers (task and package service)

    - Package snapshots
