  • 1.  DS 7.5 Automation Folder will not boot on some models

    Posted Dec 26, 2013 01:02 PM

I the automation folder which when I attempt to boot to automation works fine on most devices.  I am seeing an issue on our HP DC7900's and DC7800's where it loads throught the first bar of "loading files" but then when I would expect the 2nd bar along with the windows logo to appear it just freezes there.  I have recreated the automation folder and still the same issue.

    anyone see this before, thoughts?

Forgot to mention this is the 32bit version of the automation folder.  I did try 64 bit and get it to boot, but most of these machines are going from XP to win7 so to keep it simple I wanted to just use the 32bit since that is by default what will install on XP machines

Hello SonicGT, Please remember that the Ghost Software Foundation Library in Deployment Solution only supports the x64 WinPE4 environment. (AFAIK) (http://www.symantec.com/docs/DOC6587 - this describes the updated Ghost binaries supplied with the GSS 2.5.1 Binaries, which are also based on the Ghost Software Foundation Library) From the Deployment Solution Manual: Deployment Solution lets you create and use Windows x64-bit PXE image to boot UEFI computers in preboot environment. Microsoft (and the UEFI working group) didn't build 32bit UEFI support into Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (WinPE 3.x). Microsoft did add it to 32bit Windows 8/8.1. - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824898.aspx http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/162606-winpe-40-x86-uefi-boot/ I think that most likely you will not be able to manipulate bios updates, etc., unless you are in the compatible mode. (32bit WinPE/Legacy Bios settings already enabled), or UEFI mode/Winpe 4 x64). Also, some machines may need a bios update to have the latest UEFI specifications compatible with WinPE 4 x64. You may have to create a WinPE 3.x x64 bit process for some of the older hardware in your environment. Russ

So are you saying that the built in Win PE4 that is part of the core DS 7.5 solution is not supported?  They do not give you any options for building older PE versions in the altiris console or the bootwizard that I can see, PE4 is installed as part of CMS 7.5 and I don't see any method for building and using older versions?  If there is an article for how to do this could you please link me to it.

When I tell the system to build a PXE boot image 32bit WinPE 4 that actually works, just the automation folder does not, which I would assume is using the same WIM file, just one is being delivered via PXE and the other automation folder.

I did open a ticket with support last week, still waiting for them to troubleshoot my issue though.
