  • 1.  DS 7.5 Prep PC for Image Capture failing

    Posted Feb 12, 2014 10:04 AM

I am having the same problem as listed in this post: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/ds-71-prep-pc-image-capture-not-working

I assign the task to caputre a ghost image of PC and sysprep flashes in Task Manager, unattend.xml is created and then nothing happens until the task times out.

The PC is a clean install from DVD with current Windows Updated and Drivers.  SEP12.1.xxx is also running on the PC.

slmgr /dlv is at 1 with a KMS license.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Pete.

you're using a 'prepare for image capture' task with KMS key in the task, with reboot to automation in the task as well?

Also, if you manually reboot to pxe/automation, that works (just confirming that piece separately works)?

Do these sysprep log files give you any hints?

    Sally5432-

    Sorry for the delay.

I was able to see in the logs that Sysprep was not doing much.  Errors came pretty quick and terminated the jobs.

I have now gotten it to Sysprep.  Don't know if the fix was joining PC to domain to get the KMS key activated or resetting the Rearm count to 5, or both, or sunspots.....idk for sure.

Now the problem is the "Boot to Automation" or "Boot to Production" doesn't happen.

    My job in Altiris calls

    1.  Prepare for Win7 Image Capture (sysprep with reboot to Automation or PXE)

    2.  Create Image (ghost)

    3.  Reboot to Production

Now, after I call the job, it syspreps, reboots as part of the sysprep job, but then it load Windows, does all the reconfiguring for a syspreped image, logs onto window and syspreps again...repeat cycle until the job timeout is reached.  If I catch it at bootup and go to network boot, it will then run the ghost job.  It is not rebooting to automation after the sysprep is complete.

Thanks for your ideas and assistance.

    Pete.

forget prepping image for a bit and test if just a reboot to pxe task works (using same automation image your prepare task uses).  It sounds like that part isnt working now.

It pops up a message stating PC will be rebooting (this is new).  Then it reboots back to Windows and after the Altiris client connects, it pops up the message about rebooting again and reboots back into Windows again and the cycle continues......

You need to troubleshoot why PXE isn't working

    Make sure service is running
try rebuilding preboot configurations (though it seems to go fast in console, it runs for several minutes on server, so give it time to run)
