  • 1.  DS server OS crashed :( , best way to resurrect DS?

Greetings all, I’m a long time lurker, first time poster. Forgive me if I make some mistakes here, English isn’t my first language. I have a DS 6.9 server that lives on a Win2003 OS that will not boot and I’ve given up on rebuilding so I would like to start “fresh”. Through a PE boot CD, I have access to the file system but do not know the best course of action to backup/restore the SQL 2005 database from that point. If I have a copy of the “Program files\Microsoft SQL Server” folder with all the .MDF .LDF files. Is that all I need? I would also like to keep as many settings as possible in the process. Any rules of thumb or best course of action on this would be a HUGE help. Thanks in advance

So other than the .mdf and .ldf files you will probably need everything from the express share. Once the server is back up I would do the following:
    1. restore the express database
    2. copy the add hoc backup of Express into %program files%\altiris\express\deployment server
    3. reinstall DS
    4. Make sure that all users still have the appropriate rights within the console.
As a precaution in the future, I would back up all files within %program files%\altiris\express\deployment server, the registry under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Altiris, and finally I would also back up the EXpress DB. Cheers! John Golembiewski Midwest Practice Principal ITS Partners Jgo@itsdelivers
