dual-boot systemm, changing default boot

For a dualboot system (WinXP, Linux), after cloning an image on PCs in a classroom, the PCs must boot into Windows to do necessary post-configuration. The boot loader used is GRUB (with menu.lst)

But I would like the PCs, when used by students, to boot into Linux as default OS.
An Altiris 'Run Script' job could be made to run a linux script that changes the default OS
in the boot menu to Linux. (in fact it is just the number of the listed OS's in the menu.lst that has to change)

This job could be put to be executed immediatly after the Windows post-configuration in the same
'Restore Lab' job. But.. to be able to execute a linux script, I guess the system must be booted into Linux ...
Or can I from Altiris Deployment, force a system to boot to a different OS than the default ?

    How to do this?
