    Hi Symantec,

I have installed Symantec Endpoint anti virus to my window Vista. And recetly I just added fedora as my dual boot OS. I wonder if it is possible to use the Symantec Antivirus in the VIsta to protect the fedora when I just using the Fedora.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello PhysicsRocks
    I am not a Symantec Employee ( I hope i will be :) )
But as you well know all programs install on OS. for example if you have 1 disk with 2 logical drives you can install 2 OS on it. and when you open your Vista the programs will be start which you install on Vista OS.
and when you turn back Fedora only programs which you install on Fedora will work.
that's why you can install 2 OS and two diffrent AV programs each of os.
    Thank you.
    have a nice day

SEP ( Symantec Endpoint Protection ) is not compatible with Fedora 11. SEP will not provide you protection when you are using fedora.

BUT when you run the Full scan in Vista it will also scan the drive on which you have Fedora installed. It means that you will not get real time protection on Fedora with SEP.

If you want you can install  Symantec AntiVirus for Linux 1.0 it will provide you protection on Fedora

But as far as I know SAV for Linux 1.0 supports only Fedora 10

    Hi,

If i understand this correctly, You want to protect the fedora usng the AV which is installed on windows vista.

The two OS are installed on different file system.

    1. Windows Vista will be installed on NTFS file system.
    2. Fedora in that case requires unallocated space which is not been identified by NTFS file system.

Due to which you will not be able to use AV installed on windows vista to protect Fedora.

The threats which out there in world are specific to file system so in that case you need different antivirus progrma which will be specific to OS.

To protect fedora you can try using symantec antivirus for linux.

Fedora uses Encrypted Filesystem .And SEP is cabale of  scanning  the EFS.
It means that when a Full Scan runs on Vista it will alos scan the partion on which Fedora is installed.

The article belowe gives you some information how SEP works with EFS.

How Symantec Endpoint Protection handles EFS

RTVScan.exe capable of scanning Encrypting file system is correct because windows has implemented EFS (Encrypting file system) as one of the feature. But how can we scan a drive which is not visible in explorer.

Fedora when installed on a machine which have windows vista or xp it doent matter it is installed on unallocated or unformatted drive. Now when windows is not able to detect the drive how it will protect that specific drive with threat.

Secondly when fedora is running how Symantec endpoint protectiotn which is installed on windows vista machine can protect it.

Symantec Endpoint Protection will not understand your RPMs, TARs, GZIPs etc ...So better have a Antivirus Protection for your Fedora OS.
