Duplicating a Tape from NDMP Backup and making it the primary copy

Created: 17 Jun 2010 | 2 comments

I need to know how to make a duplicate of a tape and make the duplicate the primary tape in NDMP backups.  The problem I am running into is when a full backup of a filer is done, Netbackup wants a copy of all the tapes in the backup set before it will perform the duplication and I have never been able to see this through to completion.  Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Doug

That is correct - when you duplicate a tape, you actually duplicate the images on the tape. So, in order to duplicate the backup image, you need all the tapes in the backup set.
You say 'I have never been able to see this through to completion' - please elaborate? Are the duplicates failing or just taking too long?
Please also let us know which NBU and O/S version of your master/media server. There are TechNotes about failures on large duplicate jobs.

set up a Storage Lifecycle Policy - works like a champ

I have a SLP that backs up my NDMP and makes a copy, it works fine.
