    Posted Apr 16, 2009 01:31 PM
    Hi everyone -

At some point last night I got a virus which is creating numerous DWHxxxx.TMP files in one of my user profiles. This profile's settings are now unable to load and I am running my computer in safe mode with networking. I was able to reach and back up my most important files on a flash drive through the c:/Users/

I have Symantec endpoint protection and Windows Vista Business. Symatec only quarantines the files. I have tried to run a full symantec scan, but the program shuts down. Additionally, it is now telling me that my definitions are out of date, but it will not let me run a live update. If anyone has any ideas for this problem, I will be greatly thankful. Unfortunately, I am a student and finals are coming up, so this could not have happened at a worse time.

    Thank you in advance!

I'm sorry, not that my definitions are out of date, but "File system auto-protect is not functioning properly. Your protection definitions may be damaged or your product installation may be corrupt."

    HI Scotts,

Your machine is deadly infected with Viruses/Worms.

Kindly remove your existing SEP via clieanwipe, restart the machine, install a fresh copy of SEP.

UPdate the definition with RR from the below link and then finally scan the machine in safe mode with System Restore OFF.

    Hi pete,

Symantec Team have updated the document on 15th April and they have included a good  solution for this as we have seen many users facing this issue.
