e000035f - The SQL Server backup interface has reported a problem. Further details can be found in the job log. Restarting the SQL Server service or the server may correct the problem.

This is a nightly problem that has been going on for ages now. There is also a SQL 2005 instance on the server and this gets backed up fine so what gives to the SQL 2000 instance? The service has been started a few times but no luck.

Are there any other logs that will tell me why this is happening?

Best bet now would be to log a call with Symantec. There doesn't appear to be much information on this particular problem.
