e00081d9 - The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding

Was using BE10d with Exchange agent, SQL Agent and Advanced Open file agent, with no issues as all.

Exchange on different box to Backup drive/ software/media server. No central management server

Had 6 jobs all pointing at one device. Jobs were timed to start after each other, but job 2 would say be scheduled to start before job 1 would finish so job 2 would start as soon as job 1 finishes. ALL full backup's

I think the problem stems from having the jobs queued up awaiting the media. Whilst it would be possible to schedule the next job to not start until the 1st jobs has certainly finished, with 6 jobs, having to leave a 30 minute window between jobs would means the backup would not complete by the morning

Removed 10D, installed 11d (trial - day 3) hotfix 6 and run a database repair.

SQl Express 2005 now

First job is a Exchange and SQL backup, with the setting enabled "Enable the restore of individual mail messages and folders from Information Store backups"

Firstly, a large number of individual mailboxes are not available for restore, which I notice many others are having problems with.

More importantly, the job fails with

e00081d9 - The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding.
For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33241

I have the engine set to restart, job is marked as recovered.

Appears to fall over during the verify

Issue is very urgent as we close the Christmas!

HI Mark,

This issue of GRT features and exchange backup is under research for the moment.

We do apologize for the inconvenience, but request you to take the backups by enabling legacy mailbox support.

Thanks ,

I have the same issue, you should not release alpha versions, I can only assume it is an alpha because no reputable company would release such a dog as a final version.

What was it tested on, not much I would suggest.

I continually get:

e00081d9 - The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding

It is not an exchange issue as I turned on legacy mailbox backup, same issue. Sometimes it happens when backing up exchange sometimes when backing up a standard NT file system.

I reboot the server and start the backup again, same problem different part of the backup.

The media server and the caso are the same machine, I cannot remove the job as it is part of the policy. I don't have a caso server in reality I only have one BE server that everything is configured from and runs from.

Give me my money back and I will put arcserve on, that works without all the hassles of this crap.

I would suggest to contact Symantec support if you have valid support license,

I was of the belief that this forum was supposed to have active participation from Symantec staff, I have another call in on an unrelated matter and the response has been hopeless. Also the wait on the phone is very testing.

Read the original message, his workplace is closed over christmas, so I doubt he will provide you with a response. Your suggestion though did not help me, I went back to backing up individual mailboxes and deselected the mail stores, same problem.

I'm also having this problem. It seems it only happens on big jobs. I've successfully run a 6 GB SQL backup, but both a 200+ GB Exchange and a 450 GB file backup both kills the service. All jobs running to tape. I'm still trying to figure out the sweet spot but any info from Symantec would be appreciated. Have anyone seen this on a clean 11d install? I was upgrading from 10d myself and I'm curious.

If I disable "Enable the restore of individual mail messages and folders from Information Store backups" cross my fingers, stand of my left foot only whilst holding an orange, then with the exception of I unrelated error, the backup works.

But there is no point me using 11d, if I can't save of disk space by having one backup cover the information store and mailboxes.

As noone from Symantec can come up with a better answer then

"This issue of GRT features and exchange backup is under research for the moment.

We do apologize for the inconvenience, but request you to take the backups by enabling legacy mailbox support."

does nayone know (and I will be honest in saying I have not checked yet) if Arcserve provide a single backup for both the IS and mailboxes and if Arcserve can read Veritas backup tapes if I needed to access an archive tape.

Regards

Mark

P.S. Swati Joshi, my office is now back open!, I followed the thread on my Blackberry, but the forum in not Blackberry friendly

I have a correlation with this error and using verification. Try turning verification off.

Get real, the only contribution that lot make to this so called moderated forum is the occasional "could you please update us on this".

I have a similar question to this one on another thread and I received a query over a week ago from a symantec person; I answered the question immediately but I have heard nothing since.

I don't know why they asked for clarification when they did nothing with the information once they got it.

Symantec help staff are about as good as a one legged man in an arse kicking party.

In windows 2003 you can go to the properties of the services and set them to restart after a failure, I'm giving that a go to see if it is a workaround. I also found a service that was running under the local system account and not under the bakcup exec account.

I'll let you know what happens

Has any one had a update from Symantec about this issue. I upgraded a working 10d multi server backup to 11d any had issue after issue.

1. After upgrade all my Backup Exec services attempted to run from c:\program files\veritas\etc, Trouble is 11d installs to c:\program file\symantec
2. Edit existing job and the scheduler keeps adding a day to the run time
3. Verify option causes my Exchange backup to crash the job engine and re run the job over and over.
4. Legacy Exchage individual mailbox backup is slow
5. Exchange Storage group backup has access denied errors with AD disable user accounts(how do you deselect them)

I'm about to uninstall 11d and put 10d back on

Stephen

No response at all, I don't think arcserve can read BE tapes so there goes that option.

I fixed a similar problem with the same error code. The job would fail and then say "Recovered" and start again. Here is how we fixed that problem.

I fixed this error with the help of symantec phone technical support. Evidently we had a "corrupted" catalog.
All you have to do is rename the old folder where the catalogs are found ( in my case it was c:\program files\veritas\backupexec\NT) and Backup Exec will create a new one and the backup will run normally.

I have been having the exact same problems. We have one backup server with two tape drives, one tape drive (1x8 Ultrium Autoloader does all data), an Ultrium-2 460 that we do our Exchange backups on. The jobs are offset by about an hour but they were both failing at the same time (since the service failed). I tried having the service restart, it does but the job still fails because of the interruption.

After reading through all of the other posts, I had tried everything else that was listed, but nothing else made a difference. I ran across one of the last ones talking about the verify operation so I went back through my logs. I found that the failure is occuring within 10 minutes of when the verify operation starts on my Exchange backup.

I just turned off the verify for the Exchange backup and we will see if it fixes the problem for tonight. I will update in the morning to let you know.

I had upgraded our server from version 10d to 11d last week and this problem has been consistently happening since then.

I do agree with everyone else that it is pretty bad that we have to resort to a workaround on something like this rather than the problem actually being fixed.

Turning off the verification on the Exchange backup fixed the problem. Hopefully we will just have to wait for some patch on down the road to fix the problem for good.

Unfortunately, turning off the verify does not help with trying to restore mailboxes/folders that are not visible, or back errors due to disabled Active Directory accounts. My next quiet weekend will be spent uninstalling 11d and returning to 10d that worked well.

Whilst I have actually moved back to version 10d for the moment, I was pointed in the direction of the following article re the GRT issue.

It was also suggested to me that Syamntec do intend to fix this issue but I did not managed to "extract" from my source a date for these fixes.

Hope this helps (a little)

Mark
