Good Day,
Re SEP 11.0 RU5 (11.0.5002.333)
Our users have just pointed out to us that the "Elapsed time" is now missing from the scan in progress screens (this has been present in all previous releases).
Is there any way to get this back?
Could Symantec Support Please reply re this?
Thank You,
Best Regards,
Roberta
PS:
Maybe Symantec wants to hide the Scan Elapsed times.... lol

Hi Aniket,
How about getting the Elapsed Time display back?
Namely, that Symantec restores it's display (Unless it is classified Ultra Secret lol).

Greetings & Salutations Aniket,
I am sure it can be done if Symantec wants to do it.
It should Not have been removed in the first place.
Thank You Very Much for your reply,

I kind of see both sides on
I kind of see both sides on this one. Showing elapsed time gives you more information. However, without a proper understanding of what it takes to scan could lead to end-users using the numbers to complain about issues that don't exist (I'm not thinking of admins like us here, but users at an institution). For example, we have plenty of users here who have identical computers. However, scan times are certainly not equal between these computers. Why? Because some users don't store junk files and/or don't need to store lots of data locally and some do. I've had many complaints about slow scan times on this computer or that computer (not just in SEP, but in some other security software we use) only to find that the user was storing tens of thousands of files totalling well over 80 GB. The typical machine here probably has 30 GB on it. Putting unecessary information into the hands of people who don't understand it can be dangerous--or in this case, just anoying when they call you to complain the 3rd or 4th time.
That said, an option to bring it back would be nice.

Good Day Snekul,
"Elapsed Time" has often been one of the first indications we have had when things have gone wrong.
Obviously user education is Paramount, & lack thereof is No justification for hiding valuable information.
Sorry but the statement: "Putting unecessary information into the hands of people who don't understand it can be dangerous" is the same statement used by most dictators in human history to justify their actions. lol
But I agree that an option to display or hide "Elapsed Time" would be a good option.

True. I'm thinking about
True. I'm thinking about reducing help desk costs (or time) by preventing unnecessary calls, but those needs don't suite everybody. Depends on the office and technical proficiency of the users. Esspecially if you have good user training programs, which is something we haven't been able to force. Actually, now that I think about it, most of the departments here actually hide the regular scans from the users entirely. Only manual scans are shown. +1 for you.

Good Day Paul,
Thank You Very Much for your Greatly appreciated reply.
No we haven't raised a support call, as we only use support if there are problems with SEP.....
And it was suggested that we should post our request here.
Any chance of having the "Elapsed Time" display restored?
Or perhaps an option to enable/disable it?
Thank You for your assistance,
Best Regards,
Roberta

You will have to call
You will have to call support and raise a Support Call for this. Then the engineers will take it up to the development team then they will have a look ( fix it )
You will have to follow the procedure and the first thing would be to create a case for it.
As this setting is embedded and there is no workaround for this at this point of time.So will have to call Support.
