  • 1.  Email ncryption not readable by others

    Posted Nov 18, 2013 04:57 PM

I generated the key and installed the certificate for a Digital ID for Secure Email, and then tried to send an encrypted email to a contact at another company.  They were unable to read the encrypted email, and when I sent it, I got a message that said "Microsoft outlook had problems encrypting this message because the following recipients had missing or invalid certificates, or conflicting or unsupported encryption capabilities:  emailofperson"

What do I have to do to make sure the person I am sharing encrypted email with can read my emails?  I've never used encryption before and don't know much about how it works.

    Thanks

Apart from the general KB about how encryption/decryption of email works with PGP, please look into below Microsoft link as the error is coming from Outlook not PGP product:

     http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884738

To resolve this issue, the recipient must follow these steps:

    1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
    2. Click the Security tab.
    3. In the Default Setting list, make sure that the correct security profile for the digital ID that you want to use is selected. To verify your certificate settings, click Settings. You can click Choose, and then click View Certificate to view your certificate details.
    4. Under Digital IDs (Certificates), click Publish to GAL, and then click OK. This will republish the correct certificate to the global address list to make sure that users are addressing you with the correct digital certificate.
    5. Click OK when you are prompted that your certificates were published successfully.
    6. Click OK to exit the Options dialog box.

Also you need to check that you have their PGP key before emailing them or the mail will fail to encrypt properly if at all.

    Edit..

They will also need your Key to unencrypt the message.
