I have been told that an individual who receives email from my company get the email as an unamed attachment.  the original email is an attachment in an email.

We are only adding a legal disclaimer to the outgoing emails.

For a start would be great to know what product, what version, and what build you are running.

Also please give details on what the intenal mail server is sending the message, and what mail client the internal users are using to send the message.  If you have have the detail would also cool to know what the  external mail server is receiving the message and the mail client being used to read the recieved message if you can find out.

    Cheers,

    Kevin,

sorry forgot to add that info.

    Brightmail Gateway Version 7.7.0

    Using Exchange 2003

I have sent an email to the end users IT department asking what they are using.

I do know that it is not every email.  but atleast half the corespondence.  and they seem to be when my users reply to the external user.

the external user is in europe.

also the emails I have on this show an email with just the outgoing legal disclaimer we attach.  Then the actual email is an email attachment.

I suppose it sounds like a standard enough environment, would you know any other organizations running a similar configuration you could test sending messages to?

Do you know if they are seeing this behavior on all messages received from your organization?

I would probably try removing the annotation to see if that makes any difference.

I've heard of something similar happen before and I believe in that case it was the way that the recipient end was reading the encoding of the message. Are you on the latest version of 7.7.0?

    Tom,

    We are on version 7.7.0-17

The annotation is text is Unicode.  I do not have anything in the HTML annotation section.

There are a couple of documents on this. Let me know if either one of these helps. Sorry I didn't post them earlier.

Title: 'Original email is shown as an attachment if an annotation is added by a policy'

Title: 'Symantec Mail Security 8300 Appliance attaches message body as an EML attachment'

    Tom,

thanks for the docs.  I changed the encoding of my annotation and have emailed our European rep several times withtout incident so far.
