    Hello to everyone

I would just ask a confirm. I installed SEP 11 MR6 with embedded database, because now it is enough for our needs (200 client in 4 sites). Probabily in the near future I will need to have the load balancing and fault tolerenace features due to incresing number of client (more than 500). So I will need a SQL database.
The simple question is: when I will have to do it, I could migrate current database to new SQL database, without lost current settings, policies, client managed??

    thank you

    If you have SQL 2005

Moving an existing Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager 11 RU5 database to SQL Server 2008

Refer the above KB if you have SQL 2008!

You can migrate to SQL without losing any settings..However Embedded Database will support up to practically 5000 Clients.

Vikram is actually right, before going through that process I would suggest you to first verify the real need to changing it.

But have in mind that as Vikram said although the embedded database support up to 5000 clients, I would say that about 2000 is already a good number to start think to migrate.

My real world experience with this found that the embedded database starts choking on the data if you have more than 1000+ clients. We had to migrate to SQL to work with more than 1000 clients.

If you would like to utilize SEPM's fault tolerance and/or load balancing, I believe SQL is required.  AFAIK, the embedded db does not support these features.

Yes, the problem could be have fault tolerence and LB between more sites rather than have more than 1000 client.

    thanks for these informations!
