  • 1.  Encrypt email or create PGP Zip

    Good day,

We are evaluating PGP desktop Email encryption to comply with clients security requirements. Our usage is commonly encrypting files/folders containing personal data (hence the requirement for encryption) and send this encrypted data in an email.

What should be the default procedure:

    - Use Outlook Sign and Encrypt buttons then create new emails as usual with attachments

    - Create PGP Zip Archive, send them via email (Sign and Encrypt via Outlook buttons on top of that?)

I am not sure what is the most secure method, but using Outlook buttons seems far easier.

    Thanks.

    Hi Enable123,

In the earlier version of PGP (as far as I remember version 8.x and before) you had to first encrypt attachment file and then attached to email which you wanted to be sent encrypted.

Now this is not needed and the attachment is encrypted with the whole message if you just click Encrypt button in Outlook.

So if you wish to secure ONLY your attachment file you have to use PGP ZIP for a file attachement and the message will be sent in clear if you don't encrypt them with Encrypt button.

I guess it is a matter of the business needs from sender and recipient site.
