Encrypted file size is incorrect while reading from a shared folder

    Hi,

Occasionally, one of the server read a file from a windows shared directory would complain the file size is incorrect.

    The configuration is like this:

Server A has a shared directory with server B and server C without Encryption Desktop installed

Server B and Server C both has Encryption Desktop installed.

Server B encrypts the shared directory hosted in A

    Here is the scenario:

We have an application in Server A that writes a file in the shared directory hosted in C.  After the application in server A is done writing the file, it will notify an application in server B to read the file and do further processing.  However, occasionally the application in server B will complain the file size of the file is incorrect in 1 ~2 times out of 5000.

We are using Windows server 2012 R2.  Symantec Encryption Desktop V10.3.2 MP7

Is it possible that maybe server A is still encrypting the file while the application in server B is already been notified and picked up the file?  If so, any solution or workaround for this?

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi kng4411376,

Server A could still be writting the file or accessing it. I would check with Process Monitor or by enabling Windows Audit logs for the folder.

If server A doesn't have the client it cannot encrypt.

However, please give the details of your scenario in bullet points, because it looks like server A is writing to an encrypted folder without having the client, this has a big chance to go wrong, in my opinion.

And a machine without the client will see the real size of the file/folder, while a machine with the client installed will ignore the overhead caused by the encryption details.
