encrypted usb with pgp and lost asc file
Created: 25 Jun 2012 | 2 comments
I encrypted an usb memory stick. I lost the stick. After 1 year I just found it but I formatted the hard drive with the initial pgp installation that was used to encrypt it and did not save the asc file.
Now, on my new machine with pgp desktop installed I connected the usb and it asked me for the passphrase. I know it is correct but it does not work.
From pgp - pgp disk - encrypt whole disk or partition - I select the usb and click on change passphrase. After I type the passphrase it tells me "Unknown key "number": unable to locate key on keyring" .
What do I do now?
I know the ID of the key, the name, the passphrase

you dont have the other half of the key that was on the original machine, I assume you didn't export and import your old keys?
