Encrypting Android devices

Created: 12 Feb 2014 | 4 comments

Hi there, I was wondering if by any chance the SED - or any other Symantec product - is/will-be able to encrypt devices running the Android OS.

Thank you

Hi Roberto,

Do you mean data stored in the Android device or, the device itself like Disk Encryption for "regular" laptops (and some tablet PCs).
I'm not aware of any of these being currently possible.

hi dcats,

I would say a WDE-like solution, but encrypring selected data could go.

I understand though that none of these is available right now. Do you foresee any developement in the future?

Thanks

Roberto

Hi Roberto,

I don't have visibility of the roadmap at that level.

I personally think it would be a good enhancement, specially the data encryption part.
Something similar to Mail Encryptor for iOS (which started also to be only PGP Viewer for iOS), I think the PGP Viewer for Android could also evolve to a more complete solution. However I haven't found a feature request for this, so I'm not sure if it is being considered.

Whenever customers see that useful features are missing in the product, we invite them to file a Feature Request. Currently, this implies to open a case with the Technical Support team.
