Good afternoon, I'm hoping you could help us with a problem.

We recieve the error on the Symantec desktop ' Encryption Desktop is unable to import any keys, certificates, or groups from the selected file' when we try to open up a PGP ZIP file recieved from a client.

We have added the privatekey correctly (or so we believe) and have the key ticked green in the Verified column.

Yet the error is thrown every time.  If we use a different pgp package we can open the file correctly every time using the key.

    Hello,

Can you provide a screen shot of the error?

    What version of PGP desktop?

    Thanks

    Anthony

    We're using version 10.3.1[Build 13100] (PGP SDK 4.2.1)

I've attached the error that we see every time we try and open any pgp zip file.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi there,

I think the person who creates the PGPZip file did not use your public key to encrypt that file. In my opinion, this could be the only reason why you were not able to open that file.

Please check with your client and make sure that he is really using your public key to encrypt that file by comparing the KeyID.

    Best regards,

    Bipin

    Hi Alex101,

Follow the suggestion from Bipin and ensure it's the same keyID.

Are you trying to import the keys from an encrypted archive? If so, please uncompress the content and import the keys after.

You mention a PGP Zip file. Is this a Self-Decrypting Archive (SDA) with an extension .exe? If so, simply run that file to get access to the data.

    Hi Alex,

Verify that the client is using the correct public key to send you an encrypted zip.

If you need to import other peoples' Public key.  This doesn't need to be put into a zip but just e-mailed to you.  The Public portion just encrypts.

    Thanks

    Anthony

    Hi Alex101,

Do you receive that file by email?
In that case, do you have a license which includes Messaging? If so, please ensure that you have enabled the Messaging feature.
Go to the menu Tools > Options > Messaging (tab) and verify that the 'Secure Email' box is marked.
