The current SymWISE service is subscription-based and allows subscription notifications or RSS feeds for new or updated content of various types for any product.

How to subscribe to and manage SymWISE article and common topic subscriptions
OR
You could visit the Symantec Fileconnect website from time to time to check if there are any product updates.

If you open your client and go to Help >> Troubleshooting >> Versions
You will see the Definitions window. You can comapre what's here with the links from below to ensure you have the latest defs.
The home tab in the SEPM will also show if you are up to date or not
