End Point Protection client deployment not updating My Company Computers in SEPManager

I am using Symantec EPP manager (Small Business Edition) to deploy clients to computers in my organisation.  My Server is WinServer 2008R2 and the client computers are all Windows7.  The client is deployed successfully but the computer it is sent to does not show in the relevant computers folder in SEPManager.  The deployment report does not record the deployment as having occurred.

This feature has worked in the past.

Is the client checking in to the SEPM (green dot showing)?

If you do a search, does it show up any where in SEPM?

The client does not show up anywhere in the SEPM database.

If I go to add a computer and client deployment, I can browse and find the client computer by name.  I can push the client software and it deploys successfully.  The client does not then appear in the database; neither does the deployment appear in the reports.

If you check on the client (Help >> Troubleshooting) what does it show under Server? Offline? Unmanaged?

The client is a laptop at a remote site.  I have checked and it shows "never connected".  If I click on the "connect" button, it eventually reports that it can't connect to server.  Now as I have just logged onto the laptop with a domain logon which is authenticated by the same server, I presume what it means is that the SEP Manager is not responding to the client connection request.

It means the client cannot get to the SEPM. Is there a firewall blocking tcp 8014?

There is a firewall in place, but it allows other clients to get to the SEPM (they are all showing in the SEPM client list), so should allow this one.  When I first had this problem, the laptop concerned was locally connected to the same network segment as the server.  It seems to me that the issue is that this laptop client was not added to the SEPM client list when the client was pushed to it.

Try replacing the sylink file on the affected client.

have not yet tried this as I had a more seious problem with another laptop in the same location to which I had pushed the client at the same time.  This one was recorded in the database, connected to the server, but did not update it's status.  The laptop was switching off the AV client shortly after start up. All attempts to repair or re-install the client manually failed, and it appeared that there were parts of various versions of the client on the laptop.  I was unable to uninstall the client and do a clean install even using 3rd party software.  So I resorted to a full restore of the laptop to its original factory build and then reinstalled the Symanted client.  It is now working fine and recorded in the management database!  I now realise that all the PC's that have problems were upgraded from SEPP 11.x to 12.x in the past.  Rather than restoring all the PCs to their factory setting I would rather uninstall the client and understand that Symantec have a utility for doing this.  How do I get hold of a copy of this utility?

I believe you're referring to cleanwipe. If you're running 12.1.4 or later, it is available in the Tools directory of the download otherwise opening a case with Symantec, they can provide you the download instrauctions.
