The school I work for is running Symantec End Point Protection version 11.
The server is Windows 2008 R2 standard, 64bit OS

Recently, after a server restart, clients could not contact to the server & I could not log into the Symantec End Point Protection Management Console.

I looked in the SQL manager and saw that the database had become unattached, I reattached the DB and restarted the relevant services.

Now all the clients on our network have a 'green dot' on the symantec shield. When I look at properties, they appear to be getting regular updates.

However; when I log into the  Symantec End Point Protection Management Console (I can log in now) I get the message:
'Unable to communicate with the reporting component'

And I can not access the first three screens (Home, Monitors, Reports) in the management console

    I have two questions:

    1) Are the client machines protected against virus's?
    2) How can I resolve the issue with management console

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Folks,

Thanks for the prompt replies. I've checked the linked article and I think the problem is here:
*Verify IIS permissions and account(s) rights are set correctly

Unfortunately, the IIS Diagnostics Toolkit doesn't seem to work for IIS 7...

    Hello,

The Issue you are facing is related to Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager (SEPM) Login.

The SEPM is the Manager Console and not the Security software, as it manages all the SEP client softwares. These SEP client software is the security software.

    To answer your question -

    1) Are the client machines protected against virus's?

Yes, you are completely protected, till the SEP clients are receiving latest virus definitions.

    2) How can I resolve the issue with management console.

To understand the root cause of this issue, I would request you to please provide us the following logs:

    a) scm-server-0.log

    b) catalina.out

    Also, check these Articles:

Unable to communicate with reporting component after changing SQL Database authentication method from SQL to Windows mode.
How To change the Authentication method from SQL to Windows when configuring SEPM database.

    Hope that helps!!

If you have linked this account with an AD account follow the steps below....

    1. Remember the account in AD that was linked to the admin account for SEP Manager
    2. Let consider the account name you linked with is "myaccountinad"
    3. The password of "myaccountinad" is "password"

    Login using the

Username: admin (would remain the same even after linking just password that gets maped)

Password: password (password of the account ("myaccountinad") which is linked to admin)

VERY IMP : YOU CAN LINK ANY ACCOUNT INCLUDING "admin"ACCOUNT
