  • 1.  Endpoint 12.1 Backups Don't Validate

    Posted Aug 29, 2011 11:19 AM

Using the Backup and Restore feature in 12.1. After the backup finishes, I copied it my desktop then tried to unzip it. However, I get this:  "Windows cannot open the folder.  The Compressed (zipped) Folder C:\Users\xxxxx\Desktop\2011-Aug-29_07-36-07.zip' is invalid."

I then tried using 7-Zip to test the archive. Doesn't work either, I get over 600 entries that read "*Unsupported compression method for 'metadata\BASIC_METADATA\(followed by long strings of numbers), each line being different.

Using the embedded DB, have around 286 clients.

Under 11, I followed same procedures to validate the backups and they never failed.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Hello,

When you take a Backup of the Database from SEP 12.1, it gets encrypted.

Incase, you try to unzip it, the backup would get corrupted. You cannot try to Unzip it.

The Zipped file could be used only via Restore feature of SEP.

To Know what does the .zip file consist of, check this article:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH162311

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH162095

Incase, you are interested in the Contents itself, you can perform this procedure:

    http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH105658

    Hope this helps!!
