I'm behind a corporate firewall and using Sym. Endpoint P. 11.0.4000 on my WinXP.

When protection is enabled, I'm having trouble with some web sites. IE7 or Opera browsers are identified as Netscape 4 by remote web server.
This causes several web sites to reject connection due to incompatible browser.

I can connect without problem if I disable protection.

Why does this happen and how can I fix it? Is there a switch in SEP to alter browser ident?

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply. Settings are password protected so I'm waiting for the IT dept to give a hand.  I'll let you know when they care to respond ;S

The Stealth Mode Web Browsing option in Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x and Symantec Enterprise Protection 5.x keeps web sites from knowing which browser and OS you are using by stripping information from the HTTP GET request; specifically from the HTTP_REFERER and HTTP_USER_AGENT tags.

    Sorry for the late response.
IT refused my request to modify network settings and adviced me to turn off network threat protection by right-clicking the system tray icon and selecting "disable network threat protection"... This solved the issue with IE web browser getting identified as Netscape.
I'm not sure about the security of my PC or the network it connected when it's turned off though.
IT says it's "safe" to disable it, so i guess I should thrust them.

    Thank you for your help.

In the Firewall Policy, under Traffic and Stealth Settings, uncheck Enable stealth mode Web browsing & update the policy. Restart your browser or pc to take effect. This is the only option i have found. Let check whether it is working or not.
