Hello,

Thanks for your time your taking to assist me with this,

Basically when I try to install Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.5 onto my server I get "Product: Symantec Endpoint Protection -- An old version of Symantec System Center has been detected. Please uninstall SSC prior to installing Symantec Endpoint Protection".

This server did have symantec system center console installed along with exchange plug in but that was all un-installed prior to me attempting to install this (although the previous system center console did prove difficult to get un-installed and wasn't a clean un-install).

The Endpoint management console will install but the client won't, (although I appreciate you have to install the client before you can install the management console so that has temporarily been removed until I get this resolved).

One other thing, we had the trial version of enpoint installed before we purchased the license so that was removed (which went ok) before we re-installed it back on again.

All other servers and clients are all worknig fine, just this server will not install the client.

here is the sep_inst.log:-

Remove Symantec System

Remove Symantec System Center, AMS (if installed)and then if possible run clean wipe on the system and then try to install

You can get clean wipe from tech support

request NoNav and cleanwipe

request NoNav and cleanwipe from technical support. best way is to open a case. Run them, clean the system, then install.

Or try to search and delete everything includes "Symantec System Center" from the registry. Don't forget to backup your registry before you do that. Then try installing.

Try this

• Go to a command prompt and run wbemtest

• Click the Connect button

• Replace root\default with root\securitycenter and click
Connect

• You will be returned to the original screen, now click the
Enum Classes button, leave the Superclass info box that appears as is (empty)
and click OK

• On the Query Results screen, highlight AntivirusProduct
and choose the Delete button.

• Close the Query windows and exit wbemtest

Please don't forget to mark your thread solved with whatever answer helped you : ) Thanks & Regards Aravind

next step - running cleanwipe OOH

thanks for the replies,

Actrian - have contacted support and got a copy of cleanwipe - server says it will need a reboot so will do this tonight out of hours.

Bekir - I'm going to see how i get on with the cleanwipe first and then if that doesnt work I will get back in contact with support to get hold of "nonav" and take it from there.

AravindKM - "• Replace root\default with root\securitycenter and click Connect" didn't work - came up with:-
Number: 0x8004100e
Facility: WMI
Description: Invalid namespace

will let you all know how I get on tonight.

thanks again

Cleanwipe solved one problem but created another

ok, ran cleanwipe and got the client installed and the management console on after that, thanks for that but now i get the following issue:-

under admin, servers at the bottom of the screen i get "Client is trying to register with invalid domain ID" and no clients are appearing in the clients list after sending the package out.

I have tried to edit the client installation settings to tick the "remove all previous logs & policies, and restart the client-server communication settings" but that whole page is greyed out so I've tried creating my own installation settings but it will not allow me to delete the default one so I'm not sure which installation settings will take.

Any idea's?

Hi

seems like the client is still looking for your previous sepm which you have uninstalled
every instance of sepm will get  a new domain id.
please check this link and replace sylink
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/error-client-trying-register-invalid-domain-id

ok, I can confirm that the

ok, I can confirm that the domain ID that the clients are looking for is different to one in the sylink.xml file on the management server so I will need to sort that out.

Now though....(one problem after another)
When I run the management console currently It will not log in, i get to the login screen and login in using admin/symantec (localhost:8443) and blank domain and the "Logging on to the management server, this may take several seconds..." message comes up but then it just sits on that.

I have tried a couple of reboots but still no difference, I have also tried the ip address rather than local host and still no luck....

seems like a problem logging into the database maybe?
