This issue has been solved. See solution.

So here is the quick and dirty... maybe not so dirty. :)

Deploying SEP11 MR4 to the school district I work for.  We have 24 schools, district office, and transportation office.  All the schools have at least 1 server running SQL and AD.

I was reading that using GUP wouldn't work since GUP can only handle up to 100 computers and the client still has to report back to the endpoint over the WAN.  I would like to deploy a SEPM at each site to keep the communication between schools and district office down to a min.  However, I just read that you shouldn't have more then 20 sites?????

Anyone have a suggestion?  15 of our sites have decent bandwidth between 20-100 mb.

Thanks ahead of time!

GUPs can support more than 100 clients.

According to our developers a GUP can handle 1000 clients or more, provided the machine has enough resources.

Also depending on the number of clients in the remote site you can just drup your check-in timer down to 1 hour or more (up to 3 in some cases) to reduce bandwidth used by client check-ins. We have a document on this, it just isnt at my fingertips right now.

Of course you will want to be in "pull mode" instead of "push mode" to reduce SEPM port usage.

I would go with a blended environment where larger sites get an additional SEPM and smaller sites just get a GUP.
