endpoint encryption
Updated: 21 May 2010 | 6 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.
We recently purchased Endpoint Encryption. In the installtion directions, it says the SEE server can be installed on a domain controller. But no where in the directions does it reflect this. You are asked to setup domain and local users/groups. You cannot setup local groups on a domain controller. Are the directions wrong or are we missing something? thanks for any help.

glad to see symantec is such a big help with one of their own products. anyone else?
apologies for the delay, but this forum as you can tell is not checked very often - I saw your post in the comments forum and decided to see if you had an answer or not.
With SEE, you should be able to install on a domain controller simply using the AD groups you create - there is no need to create local groups. Obviously you wont be able to use the standard LDAP ports, so ADAM will suggest other ports to use when you install it.
Hope that helps

I am in the research phase of deploying Endpoint Encryption, and have a question.
Can Endpoint Encryption be installed on an already running Endpoint Protection server?
Thanks,
Yes endpoint encryption can be installed with SEE protection, shouldnt be any problem. With the SEE you can install the ADAM server using the UnattendedAdamSetup.vbs if you are setting up a enterprise network or you can skip this by using the serverless mode which wont support client reporting and client management using GPO's. Once this is done you may Install FR/FD and RS server packages, generate client MSI packages and install.
SEE 6.1, 6.2 and 7.0 support all flavours of windows 2000 and above. (not the x64 bit though).
