    hi,

Please where can i view or get a report on the type of license i have and the number of users that have been used in my license on the symantec endpoint protection 11.0.6 administration console.

I bought 100 users license and installed the software through the media kit that was given to me, i have deployed to some clients, i have also activated the license on the licensing.symantec.com website. But my greatest challenge is that, there is no where on the interface where i can view the number of license used and also give me more details on my license.

All this is possible to view in SEP small business edition, but why is it now not possible in SEP enterprise version.

    Hi;
On Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.x there is no way to view this. But a good news On the SEP 12 version (amber) there will be a section to view this details. You must wait till SEP 12 relase (June or Julty).

If you want you may register SEP 12 beta.

thanks cemile, i really appreciate this information.

I think SEP 12 would be a very good thing after it comes out, i cant wait to get it and there should be a way to upgrade our existing clients or users from SEP 11.0.6 to SEP 12.

    Have a nice weekend.

what shocks me the most is how symantec gets to synchronize the installed media kit and users with the registered/activated license.

Several times people have installed from the media kit and it worked for them, for one year before expiring.

well if i could get an explanation on how this technology works that would be nice.

when i try to log into my console with my username and password i get this error(see attached below the screenshot).

What is the explanation why proactive threat protection is always off on every server OS that SEP is installed and some of the servers on my network have theirs updated to February but still off while this particular one has its own date as at June 2010(see attached below).

SEP does not show virus notification or update unless you scan the device.

For example, i slot in an infected flash drive, that has keygen and trojan, SEP does not immediately come up with an alert that flash is infected, it always tend to wait until i start a scan on it before it starts to show that the flash is infected.

Is there a setting i need to enable so that when an infected flash or hard drive is connected to a SEP client, i immediately see the alert, before i then go ahead to scan the removable media.

For your PTP issue check this KB -

Proactive Threat Protection shows disabled and does not update definitions after install

    Regarding USB drive:

The File System Auto-Protect scan is the only type which would automatically scan a USB drive connected to the system. This type of scan, by default, would only run when a file is accessed or modified (scans the files when they are written, opened, moved, copied, or run).

Does Symantec Endpoint Protection or Symantec Antivirus Scan USB flash drives?

You are not in the Endpoind Protection forum, I will move this thread over for you.

    Best,

    Thomas

    hi cycletech,

is there anything i have to do when next i see that authentication error.

    2. I have activated a 150 license users on licensing.symantec.com, i have also installed and deployed to users via SEP management console.

How do i know, the number of licenses i have used and how do i check on the console that the console and the SEP clients are not in trial mode.

What is the exact error that you are seeing? Can you post a screen-shot? SEP 11 does not require a license or display the number of licenses.

    hi cycletech,

Why would SEP management console shut the administrator off just like that. When you try to login with the correct details what you get is this error "Authentication failure. Please try again."

Most times the username and password are always correct but still we can not log in. So i always end up un-installing the console and re-installing a new one.

Have you experienced this kind before, or what do you think

    Hi,

Is there anywhere on the console where i can put a setting on all deployed SEP clients, such that when a removable media e.g(flash drive) is connected to any client, that an automatic scan should resume on that media.

Must i always have to go and scan it manually. Can this scanning be achieved automatically, i.e the SEP automatically notice that a drive has been connected then prompts you of the scan and starts scanning

    thx
