Endpoint management SMP Agent for Mac

Created: 13 May 2014 | 4 comments

Does anyone know of a tool that will allow remote management for the SMP agent like RAAD??  I'm not able to see the agent under Realtime in the resource manager.

Also can we get a list of commands which will restart/Update Configuration/Send Inventory (etc)  the agent via a task implemented in with future releases for Macs as we have for Windows.  If anyone has a list of commands already would you mind posting.

Thanks,

Misty

Hi,

for refresh policy and send basic inventory, you can create these tasks and use for Mac client computers as well:

Mac_ULM_Tasks_0.jpg

Also there is a "Reset Agent" task which can be used for Mac ULM agent to re-register CTA and "Control Service State" task which can be used for ULM Agent stop/start/restart actions.

Here is a basic list of ULM agent command lines:

  • /opt/altiris/notification/nsagent/bin/rcscript stop     ULM agent stop
  • /opt/altiris/notification/nsagent/bin/rcscript start     ULM agent start
  • /opt/altiris/notification/nsagent/bin/rcscript restart  ULM Agent restart
  • aex-refreshpolicies
  • aex-sendbasicinv
  • aex-helper info ns      shows current NS server address
  • aex-helper -v             shows version of ULM Agent
  • aex-helper list           shows all installed solution plug-ins
  • aex-cta ts                 shows current registered Task Server
  • aex-cta -v                 shows versiont of CTA
  • aex-cta list               shows list of all executed tasks on client
  • aex-cta refresh          performs request of available tasks
  • aex-cta register         performs registration of CTA with Task Server
  • aex-smf swc --scan      performs scan of available installed software
  • aex-smf swc --send      sends all scanned installed software information to NS server

You can create "Run Script" task -> choose "Unix script" and use these command lines.

Thanks,

IP.

I don't know about such command line parameter for ULM Agent to perform reset of its own GUID.

Probably you have this problem? http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH205800

Or you can just delete this Mac client computer from SMP Console and perform aex-refreshpolicies command line on Mac client, to initiate re-creation of it in SMP server.

Resetting the GUID on OS X can be accomplished by stopping the agent, removing the host.GUID file and then restarting the agent. You can do those from the command-line, SSH or ARD as below. Be sure to run them as root or add sudo before each command.

/opt/altiris/notification/nsagent/bin/rcscript stop

rm /opt/altiris/notification/nsagent/etc/host.GUID

/opt/altiris/notification/nsagent/bin/rcscript start
