Endpoint Manager Console can't Detect Client Computer

Hi all,

We had Endpoint 11 (without MR1) originally installed on our Windows 2003 Domain Controller. We had about 60 Windows XP client computers with the Endpoint protection installed managed by the Endpoint Management Console (on the Domain Controller). This included Antivirus, Antispyware, & Network Threat Protection. After about a week, the content folder in Endpoint was increasing, eating most of the free space up on where the Endpoint Management was installed. We decided to remove the Management console from our Domain Controller, and install it on a fresh new server, which included the MR1. We then uninstalled it from the Domain Controller. This means that I needed to redeploy the client packages to the client computers.

The problem I have been having now is that I am not able to detect an unmanaged/unknown computer in the Client settings. I made sure that I entered the computer name, logon credentials, and domain correctly. Strange thing is that I was able to detect several other computers (w/o the old Endpoint client installed), in which some of these computers were brand new. So I tried uninstalling the Endpoint client from a computer that had it previously installed, but the Management Console is still not able to detect it after that. I even tried using the CleanWipe Tool that a Symantec Tech recommended me to use (to clean out all Symantec software on the computer). The Windows Firewall is turned off as well. I can ping the management server from the client machine, the management server can ping the client machine.

Any clue as to why this is happening? Thanks

hi
the easyest way to copy clients to new server is to put sylink.dat file from new AV server to clients
sylink.dat stored on symantec endpoint protection manager\outbox\agents
there enter any folder and find sylink.dat
copy it to clients only before copying use command in cmd.exe   smc -stop
then copy file and use smc -start to start management client
after this client will appear in console

Hi Kabak, thanks for your reply.

I will try that for the client computers that previously had the Endpoint client installed. But how do I solve the problem with client computers that don't even have Endpoint installed, and cannot be seen by the management console.

hi
sorry, i made a mistake in previous message
sylink.xml, not .dat
with computers without client installed is easyer (U can use this method to deploy client package to PC with client installed)

with manager U can create client packages with the configuration U want (in admin->install packages page export package and configure it - set the path to put the installation package and choose to make single exe file)

use ClientRemote.exe tool to deploy client packages for clients

the other way - to copy sylink.xml file from manager to installation pack (from CD) and install

if any questions - write - i will answer

Hi , i have a similar problem.

I have SEPM installed on Primary Domain Controler Win2003 server R2.

I installed the console, the local server protection, created the packet and deployed it via the Migration and Deploiment Tool.

The intallation finished correctly, but I can't see my clients on the console !!!

Also, the clients seems not to receive the micro virus definition update.

I read in 2 posts on this forum that reinstalling the SEPM Management Console should resolve this problem.

I uninstalled/reinstalled the SEPM console, with a new integrated database, tested my DSN, it's okey.

What should I do now ??

How can i retrieve my clients ??

I must re-deploy package to the clients?

thanks
