Endpoint Protection 11.0 License

Created: 14 Feb 2012 • Updated: 11 Jul 2012 | 5 comments
This issue has been solved. See solution.

This has been discussed multiple times but I'm still confused.  We have Symantec Endpoint Protection, version 11.0.6100.645.  I keep reading that you no longer need to "renew" a license.  However, why do I get an annual renewal invoice (i.e. what is that for)?  I must admit, I had always felt I was paying for definition updates; not so?

I'm simply trying to justify the annual cost.  Thank you in advance.

Symantec does renew the License. However, you get a choice to renew to SEP 11.x OR to SEP 12.1.

Secondly, since you are carrying SEP 11.0.6100 (RU6MP1) which is a End of Life by - 2011-07-05 - Check this -

We request you to make sure you are carrying the Latest Version of Symantec and It is important to maintain consitency in the SEP 11 - check article below:

About Maintaining Consistency of Software Versions throughout a SEP 11 Organization

Latest version of SEP 11.x is SEP 11.0.7101, check this -

Migrating to Symantec Endpoint Protection 11.0.7101 (RU7 MP1)

In reference to annual renewal invoice and the Question about the Annual cost - I would suggest you to speak to Licensing Department, You can contact Symantec Licensing Department for the same.

Activation & Product Upgrades

For product registration, activation or obtain an upgrade for your product, log into our Licensing Portal.

It is always recommended you to Migrate your License to the SEP 12.1 (incase the License is under valid License Period)

How to upgrade your SEP11 license to SEP12 online

(Note: This is completely FREE)

Once, this is done you could download the Software SEP 12.1 as well as the License and then Migrate the SEP 11.0.1000 to SEP 12.1

Hope that helps!!

Agree with Mithun in the Point of SEPM upgradation. You can renew the license and then try to upgrade the SEPM latest version. It will fix up the bug and some new step added there.

I will try and find it in the forums, but I was once told by support, that contrary to SEP 12.1, with SEP 11 you are not paying for licenses per say, but rather paying for support.

It is on an honorary system.  They do not verify how many licenses you are using.

In SEP 12.1 this has been updated that the system DOES look for the amount of licenses you are using.

That is correct.

By purchasing the License, you are receiving the Softwares Latest versions (upgrades) as well as you receive the support.

However, in SEP 12.1, few additions were made other than the above.

Check these Attachments to understand the Licensing in SEP 12.1

Renewal is required to get the Maintainance and support from Symantec.
