ENDPOINT PROTECTION 12.1 INSTALLATION REBOOTS

This issue has been solved. See solution.

Hi,

We have a high security area of our manufacturing network where we need to deploy SEP 12.1 client and, due to the sensitive nature of the devices, we cannot reboot the systems except during a 2 week window each year.

Is there a way to deploy SEP 12.1 clients without having to reboot the devices?

Thanks

Colin

atleaset 1 reboot is neeed for sep 12.1 if it is migration, if it is fresh it is not required

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH163086

this installation service is designed to avoid forcing a reboot, and as such will not replace the drivers and services associated with the SEP 11 client. Instead, the SEP 11 and SEP 12.1 clients will effectively be installed side-by-side, pending a reboot.

During the reboot, the installation service will complete the removal of the SEP 11 client and start the SEP 12.1 client.

Consequently, the installation of the SEP 12.1 client will not take effect until after the computer is rebooted

When you create an install package, under Client Install Settings, go to the Schedule Reboot tab and set it to "No Restart"

Than select the group these PCs will be in. On the Policies tab, under Restart Settings, select "No Restart"

A reboot is needed if you're doing an upgrade.

Even on a fresh install a reboot is needed if you're installing the NTP component.

You may set your installation package to "no restart"so you can control it but it does not mean you can avoid it and the SEPM just reflects it.

Migrating the SEPM would not require any reboots. However, when Migrating the SEP clients you may require a reboot of the SEP client machines. Network Threat Protection (firewall) drivers would require a restart of the machines to get themselves activated. However, these could be taken care off by creating custom package and avoiding the restart of machines.

NOTE: You may have to restart the machine before the next migration or once the machine is ideal and out of production hours; whichever is earlier.

Hello,

You could create a custom package without Network Threat Protection Feature (temporarily) and with "No Restart Option"

Thanks gents....these will be a first time installation and we won't be using the NTP element, purely AV only.

Will trial the custom package installation.
