This issue has been solved. See solution.

Can someone tell me how to make the regsitry change in Vista to allow me to disable antivirus and antispyware protection? That option is currently grayed out.

This can be done in the SEPM console or if the administrators allow it users can disable themselves.

Are you trying to work around

Are you trying to work around restrictions in your environment?  Even if you manage to work around it, SEP will check in again with the SEPM server and reapply the setting again.

If you are an administrator on the box, there are certainly many ways to disable anything, since you have full control of the computer.
