Is there someone who has experienced this ? :

Endpoint Protection Manager can't connect to database. scm-server-0.log error said "connection tyo database failed".

    "2014-04-21 18:59:57.296 THREAD 1 SEVERE:  in: com.sygate.scm.server.servlet.StartupServlet
com.sygate.scm.server.util.ScmServerError: Failed to connect to database after tried 20 times, please start the database!"

I also check in administrative tools, the ODBC connection on System DSN was lost.

    Please advice.

Has anything changed recently? Have you rebooted or run a repair?

I think it's because I deleted some logs. Not sure which one it is.

I have reboot the server but it is still the same. I running Endpoint Management Wizard but it said Embedded database is not connect, trying to start the SEP Embedded database on Services also it was forced stop.

Not sure if sem5.log also be deleted. If yes, Can I repair this error with Disaster Recovery option?

Yes, it may be quickest and easiest option to get back up and running, especially if deletions were made.

It is the same. Do I need to remove (uninstall) SEP Manager first?

I have try to repair, after finish SEP Manager Wizards run automatically, then I choose recover with file and it show same result.

    Performing the disaster recovery:

A disaster recovery requires you to sequentially complete the following procedures:

    1. If you had a catastrophic hardware failure, restore the server hardware using the IP address and host name from Backup.txt (from Step 3 above).
    2. Reinstall Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager using a disaster recovery file (gathered in Step 2 above). When the Management Server Configuration Wizard runs, choose "Custom configuration" and "Use a recovery file". ( For Small Business Edition, if the folder does not exist, create the folder and place the recovery file there before installation. Location: <Install drive> \<Install folder>\Server Private Key Backup, Example: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\Server Private Key Backup)
    3. Stop the following Services: Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager and Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager Webserver
    4. Restore the database (Use the "Database Backup and Restore Wizard from the SEPM tools folder).

How lucky I am, before i go for clean install the SEP Manager i go for this step :

"4)Open a command prompt  and navigate to the following location: C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\ASA\win32

    5)Issue the following command: dbsrv11 -f "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\sem5.db"

then I restart the SEP Embedded Database service and it started! not force stoped anymore.

I run SEP Manager and it work great !!!

Thanks for your assistance all of you. TQVM

    I tried the following command: dbsrv11 -f "C:\Program Files\Symantec\Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager\db\sem5.db"

I get a message in command prompt dbsrv11 is not recognized as an internal or external comand, operable program or batch file.

I verified I am in the correct directory since we installed it on our D: drive instead of C. Any help. I can't get the embedded database to start.
